Continuing from last week’s post, here are some of the games I’m most looking forward to playing in the second half of 2011.
Resistance 3
Platforms: PS3
Release date: 9/6
More blasting aliens in the 50s! The developers said they worked on simplifying/cleaning up the multi-player in this version to provide a better experience than Resistance 2. So that’s good.
Rage
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3
Release date: 9/13
A new first-person shooter from id Software? That’s all you had to say. But this one is a little different. It’s set in a post-apocalyptic world full of mutants, which from screenshots looks a little like Fallout. But, while the game is supposed to have some RPG elements, it’s a shooter mixed with a combat racing game. I know — weird/awesome, right? Racing is going to be a major element of the game, as you’ll need to win races and upgrade your car with the spoils. I can’t wait to get my hands on a demo.
Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
Platforms: PS3
Release date: 11/1
I loved the first two Drake games, because I’m a fan of high adventure, treasure, and witticisms. This time, Drake is stuck in the Arabian desert searching for a lost city.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3
Release date: 11/11
This feels more like the eleventy hundredth Elder Scrolls game, but I’m okay with that. Elder Scrolls V supposedly uses a brand new engine that looks and plays better than ever before. Also, I love games where you can attack anyone. I guess I’m just a sociopath like that.
Gears of War 3
Platforms: Xbox 360
Release date: Q4, 2011
The number one 360 franchise is getting another installment, although if the release date continues to slip it might not be until 2012. In addition to better graphics and more action, the latest GOW will have a four-player co-op mode.
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3
Release date: Q4, 2011
Oh, good — another sequel to this squad-based shooter franchise means another opportunity to be yelled at over the internet by 12-year-olds. I’m trying to not “suck at this game” as hard as I can, kids — I promise!
Mass Effect 3
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3
Release date: Q4, 2011
The third and final Mass Effect game takes place on Earth. Hey, that’s where I live! This is another near the top of my must-play list.
Duke Nukem Forever
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3
Release date: Some time in 2011
It has been promised for years, but the development has taken… forever. HAHA. Sorry. Anyway, now that I’ve seen the demo, it looks to be everything you could want out of a Duke Nukem remake.
Infamous 2
Platforms: PS3
Release date: Some time in 2011
I enjoyed the concept and gameplay of the first game, but felt the missions became really repetitive after a while. Hopefully the sequel does a better job of mixing it up.
SSX: Deadly Descents
Platforms: Xbox 360, PS3
Release date: Some time in 2011
From the little I’ve read on this game, it’ll combine elements of survival with the normal SSX over-the-top action. Should be EXTREME.
Twisted Metal
Platforms: PS3
Release date: Some time in 2011
Finally a Twisted Metal game comes to the PS3.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Platforms: Wii
Release date: Some time in 2011
I love me some Link, but I’m not sure how I feel about the focus on motion control. It’s always exciting to play a new Zelda game, though.
I’ll follow up with another post later in the year as more releases are announced. Which games are you most looking forward to this year? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter or Facebook.

Your kinda horrible at this aren’t you? I would expect more enthusiasm from you if you’re going to call this blog a games preview. Instead it comes across like you just don’t care about these games or the fans. Almost like you’re being paid to do a job you don’t care about. It’s sad actually because as a gamer I am excited about quite a few of these games and your drone like appraisal of each title makes me feel like someone put a gun to your head. I hope some of your other blog posts have some passion, if not though maybe you should get an intern or someone else to write for you.
