So what did you think of the Oscars last night? You can see our live comments on our Twitter account, but here are just a few quick thoughts to wrap it up:
I think the Great Franco/Hathaway Dual Host Experiment was a bit of a flop. It wasn’t horrible, but it certainly wasn’t great. That fact was highlighted even more by the appearance of Billy Crystal. Probably a bad idea to bring out a living reminder of how good the hosting used to be.
Speaking of Billy Crystal, I love Bob Hope, but that communication from beyond the grave thing was unnecessarily creepy.
And speaking of hosts current and former, my vote for next year’s MC is Kirk Douglas. He was hilarious up there — one of the highlights of the night.
Also hilarious, as per usual: Alec Baldwin.
As far as the winners, I don’t think any of the major category results were much of a surprise. All the results felt pretty much inevitable to me. They were certainly deserving, just not surprising.
I mentioned this in the live tweets, but I could really do without the previous year’s winner presenting the award and having like a five minute convo with each nominee, as if they’re all best friends or something. If the presenters didn’t have writers, plus screeners for all the nominated movies from the studios, they’d probably have nothing to say to most of them.
