Having been rushed to the hospital in early February, Elizabeth Taylor remains there today, recovering from symptoms of heart failure. Though doctors say she’s progressing, it’s not the most ideal setting for a birthday celebration. We wish her a speedy recovery and a very happy birthday. Let’s honor her on this special day by recognizing some of her greatest accomplishments:
- Winning two Oscars: One for her role as Gloria Wandrous in Butterfield 8 and one for her role of Martha in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
- Raking in a cool $1 million in 1963 for her title role in Cleopatra
- Leading the fight against AIDS through the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation
- Owning a collection of fabulous jewelry, including a 29.4-carat diamond from Mike Todd, the Krupp diamond at 33.19 carats and the Taylor-Burton 69.42-carat diamond
- Marrying a list of Hollywood hunks like Michael Wilding and Richard Burton
- Raising all four children: Michael Howard Wilding, Christopher Edward Wilding, Elizabeth Frances Todd and Maria Burton
- Launching a number of perfumes such as “Passion”, “White Diamonds” and “Black Pearls”, which together are said to earn an estimated $200 million in annual sales
- Being named Dame of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in 1999
- Having a really famous friendship with Michael Jackson
- Beating illnesses and addiction, and fighting through her most-recent bout with congestive heart failure to celebrate her 79th birthday
