Hanna

Review: Hanna

The husband and I took some time this weekend to check out Hanna, the new film directed by Joe Wright. It stars Saoirse Ronan, most recently seen in The Lovely Bones, and Eric Bana. I’m a huge fan of movies where Eric Bana is a badass. My favorite by far is Black Hawk Down, and I’m officially recommending it to you right now. Add it to your Queue — I’ll wait.

So, back to Hanna;:I mostly enjoyed it and really wanted to enjoy it more. Everyone clearly brought their A-game and Cate Blanchett brings new meaning to ice queen. But even then I found it pretty predictable and slightly bi-polar, as if it wasn’t sure if it wanted to be an art film or an action film so it ended up embracing neither.

There was also the pacing problem, where some action was fast enough to cause a little disorientation, or the story lagged and I was ready for some serious violence just to get things moving. Now, to bring both sides to the story, my husband and the two guys behind me were huge fans and are already hoping for a sequel. Me? I’m ready for Thor, Captain America and The Avengers. I’m pretty clear on what I’m getting with these and I can’t wait.
