Farewell to the Oprah Show

Today marks day 1 of a life without the Oprah Winfrey Show, and I must admit that it’s a little sad. Like millions and millions and millions of people around the world, I watched Oprah’s final episode yesterday.

She had no guests, no giveaways, no surprises. The show was her love letter to her loyal viewers. In one hour, she summed up the many lessons the show has taught her. And she lectured us on how we can create a “talk show” of our own and teach others the way the Oprah show has taught us. Here are some of my favorite Oprah-isms from the final episode:

“Use your life to serve the world.”

“Everybody has a calling. It may not always make you money, but everybody has something.”

“You are responsible for your life.”

“You being alive makes you worthy [of love, happiness and acceptance].”

“Everyone wants to be validated. Try it with your friends and family. Let them know that you hear them, see them.”

“Your life is speaking to you. What is it saying? What are those little whispers telling you right now?”

“You and this show have been my greatest loves.”

And with that, the lights dimmed and the show was over. It may be weird and/or crazy, but some of us really loved that show. I, for one, will find it hard to live without it. Luckily, Oprah gave us her personal e-mail address (oprah@oprah.com). And you can always follow her on Twitter @oprah (I already do) to find out what she’s up to every day! So it’s not really “farewell,” but “see you later, Oprah.”
