Apparently, today is the incredibly made-up holiday Repeat Day. Yeah, I don’t know, either. But it did get us talking about movies and shows we can watch over and over. So thanks for that, whoever is responsible for making up ridiculous holidays!
Here are a few things I can watch again and again and never get sick of.
The Hunt For Red October
Less Swollen But Also Less Funny Alec Baldwin, a Russian submarine commander with a heavy Scottish brogue, our first introduction to the iconic Jack Ryan character (on screen, at least), SUB FIGHTS!, Russian bad guys (lamentably lacking in today’s movies — damn you, end of the Cold War!) and James Earl Jones. These are all reasons to watch this movie daily, if not more often.
The Fifth Element
Three words: Leeloo Dallas Multipass.
Yes, I do use any opportunity to suggest this movie. It’s my favorite.
Another one of my favorites. And I may have actually seen it more than any other movie. I just love the characters, music references, and extreme smarminess.
Shaun of the Dead
This has so many quick little asides and comedic hits that it takes multiple, nigh-obsessive amounts of viewing to fully appreciate. So I oblige.
The West Wing (any Sorkin episode)
I’m in the middle of watching Season 5 with my wife, who had never seen the show before. And yet I’ll still watch any episode I happen to catch on Bravo. It’s just so good.
Scrubs, Season 1
Later seasons aren’t as good (although some were still great), but Scrubs had one of the best first seasons of any show I can remember.
