New Year’s Resolutions Movies

This year, we’ve decided to tie our New Year’s resolutions to movies, in the (probably wrong) hope that it will help us remember them throughout the year. Here are resolutions and corresponding movies from some of our Marketing/Content team.

David Callaway
My resolution for 2012 is to be more accepting of things I can’t change and to let things work themselves out — in short, to be much more Dude. And if that means walking around in a bathrobe all day and drinking more white Russians, then so be it.

Amy Huff
I’m not resolving anything so much as looking for inspiration, since I’ll be a new mom in the New Year. So I will be checking out:

Easy A, because Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson are some of my favorite movie parents (she’s also awesome in Pieces of April).

The Devil Wears Prada, Sex and the City and The Thomas Crown Affair (remake with Rene Russo) as fashion inspiration to get out with the jog stroller.

Oh yeah, and I can’t forget Juno — love Allison Janey, and J.K. Simmons was also fantastic. May need to include Away We Go so I have Maggie Gyllenhaal‘s character as an example of what not to do. I’m all about the stroller!

My resolutions:

1) To get out of the States and travel more, whether to exotic island locales, or backpacking through Europe for a week or two. Movies that inspire me to get my passport and pack my suitcase are: The Beach, Couples Retreat, Under the Tuscan Sun and National Lampoon’s European Vacation. We all need a little dysfunction in our travels, right?

2) Spend more time with the girls. What better way to get inspired for a fun ladies night out or ladies-only vacay than getting together to watch Sex and the City, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (think slumber party), Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Thelma and Louise, and Boys on the Side.

3) Finally, the clichéd resolution to “lose weight” and get fit. The first movie that comes to mind is Bridget Jones’s Diary, where she spends the whole movie trying to lose weight and improve herself… for a love interest. Any of the Rocky movies can get me in the workout mood. Food, Inc. is another good one.

Well, as 2011 wraps up, I guess it’s time to look forward to 2012. Since it’s all gonna come crashing down around our heads in December, what with the world ending and all (2012 was a documentary, right?), I guess it’s time to strengthen my nerdcore and do my annual Babylon 5 immersion. Join me, won’t you, and answer the questions:
Who are you?
What do you want?
Why are you here?
Where are you going?

Also, I am making it my life’s mission in 2012 to make sure Community comes back. If you care for the state of humor, love ANYONE at all or want to make sure we make it past December 21, 2012, you will make it your life mission as well. #allhailDanHarmon

My first resolution is to run the 9.5 miles around the lake at least once a month. The movie that best represents distance running for me is Forrest Gump. What better inspiration to just keep going than Forrest? He just felt like running, so he ran. I mean, it’s that easy!

My other resolution is to wear more makeup… well not to wear more makeup, but really just to wear makeup. Like at least some lipstick or something. And when I think of well makeup-ed people, I think of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde. Yep, it is what, it is but you can’t deny that she has perfect makeup.
