Top Ten 80s Holiday Cartoon Specials

200x150_80s_christmas

As a child of the 80s (er, 70s?), I can remember no greater joy during the holidays than watching as the “SPECIAL” animation flew across the television screen, pre-empting regular programming for what was most certainly to be a kid-friendly cartoon. In prime time! While these cartoons may never quite reach the same iconic status as the Grinch or A Charlie Brown Christmas, they’re still worthy of an annual holiday viewing. With any luck, these specials might just warm the hearts of a whole new generation. Read More

A Do-It-Yourself Disney Holiday

Walt

On this day in 1901, Walt Disney was born in Chicago, Illinois. In honor of what would’ve been Mr. Disney’s 109th birthday, we want to help you celebrate the holidays, Disney-style. In 1958, Walt Disney Productions presented a special titled “From All of Us to All of You,” also known in later years as “A Disney Channel Christmas”, “A Disney Christmas Gift” and most recently, “Jiminy Cricket’s Christmas.” Read More

Robots: The New Zombies?

T2

I’ve seen a lot of chatter on the internet recently that we have more to fear from an impending robot uprising than a zombie plague. Well I’m not buying into this Robopocalypse business. So I’ve put together 5 reasons to fear the machines, and 5 reasons to welcome our robot servants/friends. The choice is yours! Read More

magnumtomselleck

If you’re not watching The Good Guys, Fridays at 8pm Central on Fox, you’re not only missing a great show that’s shot here in Dallas, but you’re missing out on one of TV’s great moustaches. You should have your TV license revoked.*

Detective Dan Stark, played by Bradley Whitford, is currently upholding the honorable tradition of the facial hair of kings (seriously, go Google it; a lot of kings had rocking ‘staches).

In honor of this, I have put together a brief list of some of TV’s greatest moustaches. Read More

Poll: Favorite Halloween TV Episodes

Simpsons Halloween

Now that it’s October, I’ve been thinking about some of the great Halloween episodes of shows I watched growing up. All the series below are known for having excellent Halloween episodes, but which do you think has the best?

Five Reasons Why I Will Survive the Coming Zombie Apocalypse

Shaun of the Dead

Because we love Halloween so much around here, it’s become a longstanding (two-year) tradition to have at least one horror-related post each week of October. To kick it off, I’m talking about one of my favorite subjects: THE LIIIIIVIIIING DEEEAAADDDD!

I think about zombies only a little bit more around Halloween than I do the rest of the year. And much of that thinking revolves around how I will not only survive, but thrive, in the zombie-dominated future to come. Here’s why: Read More

Favorite TV Shows for Sick Days

Fiirefly

I’ve had a recent experience with not feeling all that great and no one at work wanted me around feeling not so great, and to be honest it’s worse than that or I would’ve dragged myself in, but let’s just all move along and agree that there was a necessary sick day where I discovered how much daytime TV is kind of lame. Instead, I found myself loading up the DVD player with some classic favorites, which include the following: Read More
