Video Game Movies

The Wizard

By now, you’ve probably heard the joyous news that we’ve added video game rentals to Blockbuster By Mail subscription plans at no extra cost. That’s right! You can get games mailed to you just by adding them to your Queue like movies. Find out more on our lovely games page.

We’re naturally pretty excited about this, as are many of our customers. And since the only way I know how to express my joy about new things is to make a corresponding list of movies, here’s a list of video game movies to add to your Queue. Along with some actual video games. Because that’s how we roll now. Read More

Blockbuster on New Droid Phones

Watch

A lot of people say to me, “David, I love watching movies from Blockbuster, but I’m a bit of a hobo/International Man of Mystery, and I’m not often in front of a TV and DVD/Blu-ray player. What can we do to solve this admittedly first world problem?”

Well, figment of my imagination, your eloquent question has been answered — now you can download and watch Blockbuster On Demand movies on the latest Droid phones from Motorola and Verizon! You can download all sorts of movies from Blockbuster On Demand, including new releases, with no monthly fees, due dates, or late fees.

The Blockbuster app comes pre-loaded on the Droid X and the incredibly new (just released today) Droid 2. All you have to do is activate the app, then get started buying/renting movies and watching them on your sweet new phone. The best part is that when you activate, you’ll get SPECIAL BONUS PRIZES. Find out more by clicking the links for each phone below. Read More

Top Five Shark Movies

Jaws

“Live every week like it’s Shark Week.” — Tracy Jordan

Shark Week Shark Fact: Sharks are the coolest. Oh, how I love Shark Week. It’s one of my favorite times of the year — a full week dedicated to the wonderful, toothy majesty of the most awesome predator on the planet. So in celebration of this joyous season, I present to you my top five shark movies. It would have been more, but I think putting all the Jaws movies in there is cheating. Also, some are legitimately horrible. Read More

(Dysfunctional) Family Movies

Little Miss Sunshine

July is National Family Reunion Month (who decides these things, anyway?), so I’m highlighting a few of my favorite dysfunctional movie families. I find these to be much more realistic than many fictional families like The Cleavers. They’re the kind of people who would show up at my family reunion: criminals, weirdos, misanthropes, etc. Read More

Movies for Mad Men Fans

Mad Men

I refuse to use the term “Maddicts.” Even though I just did. Anyway, Mad Men fever is sweeping the nation! And why not? The show is a look back at a simpler time, when it was cool to smoke on airplanes, get blitzed at work, womanize, and generally be kind of a jerkface.

I’ve always loved the culture of late 50s/early 60s America, and Mad Men does an excellent job of capturing it. I mean, as far as I can tell — I wasn’t alive. If you’re a fan of Mad Men and the time in which it’s set, you’ll probably like these movies from the same era. Read More
