Continuing our Best Friend’s Day theme, I’m taking a look at some of my favorite movie and TV shows that are pro-friendship. I’m not sure I would watch two hours of general grumpiness, anyway. These picks feature womanly friendships. Read More

Why Ladies Love Vampires
In honor of the DVD/Blu-ray release of Twilight: New Moon next week, we’ve asked Heather to opine on why ladies seem to love them some vampires.
Twilight: New Moon releases on 3/20, and rather than talk about Bella and Edward, I’d like to take a look at vampires and just what makes them so darn attractive. Sure there’s the whole eternal youth, forbidden romance, animal magnetism, sense of danger, ultimate bad boy stuff. But I think it’s deeper (read: shallower) than that. It’s all about the coat. No really, hear me out on this. I’m going to rate 10 of the hottest vampires on a Big Billowy Coat scale, a BBC scale if you will. The better the coat, the hotter the vamp.
10) Lestat de Lioncourt (Tom Cruise & Stuart Townsend) — Interview With the Vampire and Queen of the Damned
Cruise’s portrayal of the vampire villain in Interview is probably (deservedly) better known, but Townsend’s Rock Star Vamp is smokin’.
9) Mick St. John (Alex O’Loughlin) — Moonlight
Mick never made it to the full billowy coat stage. Though perhaps he would have moved higher up this list had the series lasted longer.
8) Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) — True Blood
A bit of a Southern gentleman, which takes away from the whole sense of danger thing, and yet still one of the hottest vampires on TV.
7) Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) — Vampire Diaries
Loses points for having lesser powers because he refuses to drink human blood. However, gains points by being devoted to orphaned teenager, Elena.
6) Severen (Bill Paxton) — Near Dark
Severen is mad, bad and dangerous to know. Adrian Pasdar (as newly made vampire Caleb) may be easier on the eyes, but Severen’s sheer enjoyment of the lifestyle is, well, hot.
5) Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) — Vampire Diaries
Isn’t it always the rule that the badder brother is the hotter brother?
4) Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård) — True Blood
A bit dangerous, loves life, and lives in my hometown. Now we’re getting to the vamps I’d consider going nocturnal for.
3) David (Kiefer Sutherland) — The Lost Boys
You know you’re getting to the awesome vampires when they only have one name. Smirky, sarcastic and smoking hot, David practically invented the big billowy coat.
2) Angel (David Boreanaz) — Angel: The Series & Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Angel’s big billowy coat is as iconic as his trademark brooding.
1) Spike (James Marsters) — Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Angel: The Series
Sure we could quibble about whether Spike or Angel belongs in this spot. In defense of my position, I’d like to point out that Spike got his leather trench from the second slayer he killed.
