Review: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

The-Girl-with-the-Dragon-Tattoo

Over the break the husband and I were determined to get in a movie, and we both wanted to see this one. The timing was perfect with the low traffic in the mall and our early bird viewing times.

First of all, I hadn’t read any of the books or seen the original films prior to watching it, but the trailer had me hooked. Seriously, I still have “Immigrant Song” going through my head and the shot of the snowy mansion was too appealing to miss. The movie stars Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgård and Robin Wright. It was directed by David Fincher, who also directed The Social Network — also with Mara in the cast, although she’s completely unrecognizable as the same person. Read More

Mid-Queue Review: Priest

I’m starting a new, semi-regular feature on the blog, where I pick a movie that I had added to my by-mail Queue months or years ago, then watch, recap and review it. First up is Priest, which I really wanted to see, but missed in theaters. SPOILERS AHEAD. Read More

Review: Winnie the Pooh (2011)

Pooh3T

I think I remember my Mom telling me that my first movie was The Care Bears Movie, but the first movie I truly remember seeing was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. You know the one: actors dressed in rubber suits that ran around fighting ninjas in the heart of New York City. I remember being blown away. It had everything I could ever wish for as a young fan of cartoons and comics. Casey Jones was there with his arsenal of sports related weaponry; there was skateboarding, humor, dancing, and Raphael even said the D-word — I was blown away. Read More

Review: Super 8

Super 8 movie

Last week we saw Super 8, as the husband had been dying to see it since we caught a tiny glimpse last year. Unlike most movies with a lot of hype, this one paid off big time. JJ Abrams teamed up with Steven Spielberg (who produced the film), and you get exactly what you would expect with that combination: mystery, excitement, creepy, sweet, and thoughtful, with lots more. Review: X-Men: First Class

First-Class Thumb

We’re now well into the summer action movie season. First I saw Thor, and now X-Men: First Class. I know I’m a little behind with the release here, but it was totally worth the wait. I think this has been my favorite in the X-Men franchise and seriously everyone rocked it, especially Michael Fassbender, who was voted to be the next James Bond post Daniel Craig (in a non-official poll of my colleagues when having lunch) — a move I could totally get behind. But I digress. Read More

Review: Thor

In case you missed all of the commercials that have been running in the last few weeks, the summer superhero flicks have started with the opening of Thor. Read More

Review: Hanna

Hanna

The husband and I took some time this weekend to check out Hanna, the new film directed by Joe Wright. It stars Saoirse Ronan, most recently seen in The Lovely Bones, and Eric Bana. I’m a huge fan of movies where Eric Bana is a badass. My favorite by far is Black Hawk Down, and I’m officially recommending it to you right now. Add it to your Queue — I’ll wait. Read More
